Body Mass Index (BMI)Am I Morbidly Obese?

You are considered an obese person if you have accumulated so much body fat that it might have a negative effect on their health. A useful measurement to determine if you have a healthy body weight is to measure your Body Mass Index (BMI). While it can sometimes be misleading, as it does not measure body fat, it is still considered a good indicator. BMI is a statistical measurement derived from your height and weight and is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height squared in metres (weight [kg] ÷ height2 [m2]).

Body Mass Index Standards:

BMI 18.5 to 24.9       Healthy
BMI 25 to 29.9          Overweight
BMI 30 to 39.9          Obese
BMI 40 to 49.9           Morbidly Obese
BMI 50 or higher       Super Obese

Note that the above are approximate values, and are intended to be used only as a rough guide.
